Hussein ChalayanFrom Fashion and back

Hussein Chalayan

Fashion meets science fiction at the current Design Museum exhibition of the most recent works by Hussein Chalayan. All the usual trademarks of Chalayan’s work are present, innovative use of technology, surprising materials and expert pattern cutting.

A walk around the exhibition takes on the form of a walk through a series of forecasts of the future, with experimental concepts represented through fashion. So much more than clothes, he pushes the boundaries between technology, apparel and design; infusing his collections with wonder and marvel.

Take the time to watch his films throughout the exhibition, especially the one at th

e end where you can witness dresses disappearing into hats and kinetic clothing that delight and defy the imagination!

The Hussein Chalayan exhibition runs until May the 17th.

Madonna - Love Profusion Video

I get inspired from this video of madonna for my project "Aphrodite" that i will design it in Adobe After effects . We can see Madonna walking through a lot of flowers giving us the spring feeling.

There are a lot of special effects," Madonna said of the clip. "I talked to things that weren't there - which is what you do when you're doing green-screen or blue-screen stuff. There's going to be a lot of fairies dancing around me. Isn't that exciting?" she added, laughing. "I always have a lot of fairies dancing around me."

Greek goddess of love and beauty

I want to use Aphrodite because she is the goddess of beauty and she inspired me for my video i want to make about Spring season.

Appearance: Gorgeous, perfect, eternally young woman with a beautiful body.
Aprhodite's Symbol or Attribute: Her Girdle, which has magical powers to compel love.
Strengths: Potent sexual attractiveness, dazzling beauty.
Weaknesses: A bit stuck on herself, but with a perfect face and body, who can blame her?
Aphrodite's Parents:One genealogy gives her parents as Zeus, King of the Gods, and Dione, an early earth/mother goddess. More commonly, she was believed to be born of the foam in the sea which bubbled around the severed member of Ouranos when Kronos slew him.
Aphrodite's Birthplace: Rising from the foam off of the islands of Cyprus or Kythira. Milos, where the famed Venus de Milo was found, is also associated with her in modern times.
Aprhodite's Husband: Hephaestus, the lame smith-god. Also associated with Ares, god of War.
Some Major Temple Sites of Aphrodite: Kythira, an island she visited; Cyprus.

Basic Story: Aphrodite rises from the foam of the waves of the sea, enchanting anyone who sees her and inciting feelings of love and lust wherever she goes. She is a contender in the story of the Golden Apples, when Paris chooses her as the fairest of the three goddesses (the others were Hera and Athena) and Aphrodite decides to "reward" him for giving her the Golden Apple (the prototype of most modern awards) by giving him the love of Helen of Troy, something of a mixed blessing that led to the Trojan War.

Interesting Fact: The island of Cyprus has many places believed to have been enjoyed by Aphrodite when she was on earth. Recently, the Cypriots have revived a tourist-friendly version of some of Aphrodite's festivals at the town of Paphos.

Prada - Trembled Blossom in Design Museum London

If you haven’t already viewed Prada’s amazing Trembled Blossom, the time is now. Words cannot express how much I love and respect this project. Trembled Blossom is a 4-minute animated film spawned out of a flower and nymph drawing done by L.A. illustrator, James Jean. Apparently, Muccia Prada was so taken by Jean’s creation he did for a store wall that she based her entire Spring 08 collection on it!

Trembled Blossoms is the extension of the project into the film medium. The animated short based on the wallpaper designs is directed by James Lima, produced by Hi! Production, Max Brun, with animation by Sight Effects, L.A. The goal was to create a classic animated film, from Hollywood's golden era of the 1930s and 1940s, while employing modern animation and motion capture technology.

While the technology is advanced, the concept is essentially the same as classic animation in which artists drew over filmed footage of an actress dancing to create Snow White. For Trembled Blossoms, the motions of a dancer playing the nymph, outfitted with small tracking reflectors, are captured and recorded, then digitally

This all for the love of art and, of course, selling beautiful clothes. Blossom is so visually stimulating and, for me, almost calming. I’ve watched it dozens of times now, yet it’s still the perfect start to a hectic work week!

Chris Cunningham is back....!!!!

Acclaimed director Chris Cunningham's commercial for Flora, Gucci's new women's fragrance, is sure to make even the Roman goddess of flowers proud! Cunningham's eclectic resume includes commercials for Sony Playstation and music videos for Portishead, Madonna, and Bjork among others. If the scent is anywhere near as sweet as the magical visuals we're sure it will be a great success!!!!

“The main drive was to create a deep poetic feeling rather than something simply romantic, a word that doesn’t fit in the Gucci code. The choice of using Chris Cunningham fit perfectly with this concept,” says Ruini. “Chris added a lot to the original idea, making the whole project more majestic and cinematic. We strive to give as much creative space as possible to great directors that are involved in our projects so we avoid setting limitations at the outset. Chris developed the initial storyboard by adding his own principles and aesthetics.”
